Dental veneers are the quickest way of getting the smile you want.
They often get bad press because some people have dental veneers that look false or too Hollywood. While some people crave ‘the Chelsea look’, and that can be done attractively, the look won’t suit everybody.
What most people don’t realise is that many attractive smiles they’ve seen are actually veneers – they’re the veneers you don’t see, the veneers done by cosmetic dentists who can balance tooth shape and size with facial features.
It’s important to have a dentist who will listen to the look you’re trying to create, and then recommend a dental veneer treatment for the result you want. Not all smiles are the same, and not all veneers are the same.
Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are beautifully thin sheets of porcelain, which are bonded to the outside of teeth to mask surface defects, discolouration and misalignments.
VIDA veneers can produce a stunning effect and look convincingly natural. To look great they must be very thin.
Porcelain is very durable but like everything we use every day, they will need maintenance or replacement especially when we want them to look their absolute best.
Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are less durable than porcelain veneers but are a really quick and affordable way of exploring veneers, and having a smile makeover for an important occasion. Porcelain veneers can always be done later once you’re convinced that veneers create the look that you’re after.

Do veneers harm teeth?
In the past, dentists removed the healthy surface of teeth to create space for veneers.
At VIDA we can carry out this treatment without ageing your teeth.
We can also do no-drilling and no-injection dental veneers for teeth that are in a good position but just need a better shape and shade – this is a quick way of making the shape of teeth look more beautiful without increasing risks of dental problems.

What is involved in having veneers?
For porcelain veneers you will visit VIDA at least twice during the design and fitting of your bespoke veneers.
If you want control over the process and end result, we recommend a design stage so your dentist and technician know exactly what to aim for.
Once you’re happy to start, you have a preparation visit with your dentist involving a digital scan and shade taking.
We use a highly detailed shade guide to detect the precise colour of the surrounding teeth so that your veneer blends in discreetly alongside them. We may ask you to visit our expert ceramist before finishing your veneers.
Bonding the veneers in place on your final visit can visibly change your tooth’s colour, shape, size or length in one step, so we recommend you spend a few days admiring them and getting used to them.
Always think about protection your veneers at night with a clench guard!
Can I still have veneers if I have gum disease?
Before doing dental veneers we make sure to diagnose any gum disease that could lead to veneers failing prematurely – our hygiene team will help you treat these problems before investing in your smile. We won’t take your investment until we are sure your gums are ready for the treatment.
When we make your veneers we have future gum recession in mind and choose ceramics that will camouflage the join between veneer and tooth for as long as possible – not all veneers will stand the test of time and we want ours to be the best!
Can I have a smile makeover without veneers?
Smile makeovers can involve quick and affordable whitening and composite bonding, they can involve lots of veneers and tooth straightening …. and even gum work first! There is a wide range of dental treatments and options to suit all budgets and situations.

How long do veneers last?
Veneers can be very durable solutions however their lifecycle depends on the individual mouth and bite forces. We offer a night guard to protect your veneers and extend their mechanical lifetime. However, there will be subtle changes in your gums and surrounding teeth over the course of 5-10 years, which means we expect the veneers to require renewal by then, even if they are still in tact.
How will I know if I will like my veneers?
If in any doubt at all about the look you’re after, or if you’re on a smaller budget, we recommend composite veneers as a starter.
They’ll change your look instantly and be a more affordable option than porcelain veneers which are more durable.
Many patients choose ‘dress rehearsal’ veneers before deciding to go ahead – the dentist adds temporary veneers on and you can video/photo them as you talk and smile.
You then take away the video on your smartphone and decide at home if it’s something you want to go ahead with. Your dentist will be happy to provide a fee estimate for a quick dress rehearsal.
Is it ok to have veneers now but whiten my teeth in future?
If you have time, we recommend teeth whitening before you have veneers, so the veneers can be made to match.
If you need veneers immediately then it’s ok to not whiten and just use the veneers to lift your shade.
Just remember any teeth not veneered will remain the old shade.
If you’ve already had veneers and now want to try whitening, remember the old veneers won’t match and may need replacing.
