The green ethos at VIDA
Healthcare creates significant waste because so many items must be disposable to avoid cross-infection.
VIDA invests great time and thought into making beautiful dentistry more environmentally friendly.
Greener dentistry in our Clinical workspaces
Digital dentistry
VIDA chooses digital innovations to avoid creating the unnecessary waste and to reduce our carbon footprint.
Non plastic impressions
We have replaced single use plastic impression trays with an intra-oral scanner. This is the size of a toothbrush and can be moved around your mouth comfortably, creating a digital file of your teeth. 3D printing and milling can then be used to create most laboratory items.
Reduced carbon footprint
VIDA has reduced the carbon footprint of making your teeth beautiful. Using digital files allows us to send your digital files to the best technicians for your veneers, crowns, and bridges, without any unnecessary car journeys between the practice and laboratory.
On site facilities
VIDA also has an onsite laboratory for some bespoke items. This allows us to produce dental items quickly, without contributing to traffic congestion or pollution in the surrounding area.
Fewer chemicals
Our digital radiography means we don’t require the strong chemicals that are used to develop conventional dental x-rays.
Less energy used in Sterilisation
The distilled water that is used in the dental instrument sterilisation process is made on site by a Reverse Osmosis System. This requires absolutely no energy.
Non plastic instrument trays
Instead of using plastic disposable trays, VIDA chooses metal which can be decontaminated in the same way as dental instruments.
Paper cups
VIDA uses paper instead of plastic, so drink up!
Our communications
Wherever possible VIDA avoids paper wastage.
Our Clinipads (similar to iPads) allow us to collect patient information and transfer it to clinical records without paper wastage
Clinipads also send you Treatment Estimates and other documents.
Greener every day
There are many other ways of reducing waste and energy usage around our building, such as LED light bulbs wherever possible, turning off lights and appliances, and using recycled products. We’re not perfect, but every day we aim to become a little greener.
