Wednesday evening saw a full audience at McInerney Dental Practice listening to Professor Michael Cummings (Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology at QA Hospital) giving a talk on ‘Current Concepts in Diabetes Care’. The presentation covered new therapeutic developments, new types of insulin and their different delivery systems, together with updates on islet cell transplants and the advances in gene therapy. It was a fascinating and informative talk and was followed by questions from the audience. Judith Deeprose then gave a short presentation on how diabetes affects the mouth & how improving oral health can have benefits for blood sugar control, help to reduce some of the complications of diabetes and positively impact on general health.
